One of the best ways to prepare for a job application is to be put through a mock interview, this is what all Bristol Metropolitan Academy Year 10 students undertook when they were interviewed by a range of employers from business and industry. These interviews have taken place for eight years and are integral to Bristol Metropolitan’s careers advice and guidance for students. The theme for this year’s event was, ‘You don’t get a chance at making a first impression’ so all students wore business dress for their first ever mock interview.
Over twenty five different employers from a range of backgrounds and industries interviewed students and asked a range of questions that would be common place in a real interview. Many of the employers have supported this careers event for a number of years.
The day commenced with inspirational keynote speeches from Charlotte Muzabazi who is a lawyer for DAC Beechcroft and, Jordan Harry who is the CEO of StudyFast.
Students also attended five other workshops throughout the day that included, apprenticeships, team building, Post 16 options, tax and personal finance and CV writing. The aim of the day is to give students a real challenging interview experience and receive invaluable feedback from an experienced interviewer.
All students in Year 7 took part in the day’s events. Independent accounting company, Grant Thornton provided an insightful entrepreneurship course that was innovative and inspiring and really engaged students who attended.
Tim Holmes, Careers Coach for the Cabot Learning Federation said, “Feedback from employers about our students has been incredible, it was great to see them smartly dressed for the occasion and really engaged with employers and the interview process. I feel very proud of our students and the whole day, and a massive thank you all employers that took part, because without them this day could not happen.”
